Motherly Thoughts

Is anyone else becoming their mother? Ever since I became a mother, I find myself saying things my mom would say, or doing things my mom would do. Every time I get my voice in a really high pitch to talk baby talk with Maggie, I realize I sound just like my mother!! And I even say the same things to Maggie that she would say. My friends used to always laugh when they would call my house, bc my mom would answer the phone in a voice one octave higher than usual, and now I find myself doing that!!! Every time I go to cook a recipe, low and behold it is usually my mothers. I find myself even buying the same things at the grocery store that she always bought growing up. I was shopping in Dillards this past weekend, not looking for anything in particular. I was casually looking around and noticed there was no one under 50 in the section I was in. Did Dillards rearrange their sections? NO!!! I was just shopping in the section my mom always shops in, the one with Eileen Fisher stuff. My goodness, somebody stop me. I am not 50 yet! And then I went over to the shoes and I passed all of these great looking high heels, and a year ago I would have walked out with 3 new pairs. But what did I look for today...comfort! So I tried on some Born and Clarkes. MY MOTHER again!! You see the pattern here. And although I am joking around and acting like its a bad thing or something, I cannot think of anyone else in this world I would rather turn into, so if I am my mother when I am 50, then I will know I have succeeded as a mother.

I talked my mom into doing a Body Boot Camp class with me. It started two weeks ago, and we go 3 times a week. It is at a Karate place here in Hattiesburg, and we even have our own karate outfits. It's pretty funny. I need to post a picture. We go twice a week for kickboxing and work outs on punching bags, and we go once a week for pilates and core training. Neither one of us ended up in the hospital the first week, so that's a plus! We are doing pretty darn good I must say! Next time you see me you might mistake me for Jessica Simpson:)

We also had Carolyn's bridal shower this past Saturday. It was so wonderful to visit with my good good friends from highschool. I love how months and sometimes years can pass, but as soon as you see them its like you haven't missed a day. I love the comfort of old friends. The shower was at Brett Favre's house, which was so beautiful. Her wedding is next weekend so I look forward to another fun weekend with old friends!

Maggie had a father daughter day with Brian on Saturday, since I was gone practically the whole day. He loved it!! I got the video camera out last night and recorded her laugh, but of course I have no idea how to post it on here. It is the best sound in the world. I used to say 3 months was my favorite age, bc she had started smiling and could start entertaining herself at this point. But 4 is definitely my favorite now. She is so alert and I can tell her little brain is constantly taking in the environment around her and learning new things every second. I'm sure I will say 5 months is my favorite age when we get there. I guess every thing to do with Maggie is my favorite! She has almost lost all of that dark hair she had when she was born. She has this one combover patch on the top, so she no longer has old man baldie ring in the back, but it is now old man combover in the front.

Double Duty!!

Poor little Maggie had her first tummy bug this weekend. It started Saturday and continually got worse through Sunday. She couldn't keep anything down and was running a fever. We went to the doctor first thing this morning. She has a stomach virus and he said it is going around really bad. I have talked to like 10 other people who have had it already. Maggie did so good though. You could tell she felt horrible, and her poor little face was ghost white and all she wanted to do was sleep. She was just so pitiful. It absolutely BROKE my heart! The worst feeling in the world not to be able to make it better for her!! With lots and lots and lots of TLC, we finally started acting like we felt better today. We even had a couple really big smiles this afternoon. Of how I have missed those smiles. But then....just when I think we are in the clear, Brian comes home with the stomach bug also!! He has it something terrible! I will not even tell you who has been a worse patient, but I'm sure you can take a guess! I went to the store and got him ginger ale and crackers, and then Maggie and I stayed on the opposite side of the house from him all night! It will be a miracle if I don't get this. I have sprayed lysol on every object in this entire house, TWICE! Wish me luck!

4 Months

Where has my baby gone? I cannot believe she is 4 months old now. We went to the doctor this week and Maggie is healthy as can be! She now weighs a little over 14 lbs, 75th percentile, and is 25 1/2 inches long, 90th percentile! Yes, she is long and skinny like her father. Oh what I would do for some of those genes. He gave the ok for rice cereal, whenever we are ready to start. I am not really ready to deal with all that yet, so we will probably wait another month or so.

We had a wonderful 4 day weekend last weekend with daddy off of work! We both got a snow day last Friday and then both had off for Presidents Day Monday! We ate up all that time with Maggie! She isn't a baby anymore at all! She holds her head up so well now. She gets out of everything that I put her in. She loves to sit on the bed and watch Baby Einstein DVD's. She needs a change of scenery at least every 15 minutes. She gets bored easily. She loves to be read to, or to look at the bright colors in the books. She is smiling like crazy and trying so hard to talk. She sits up very good with help of the bumbo, and rolls over almost every time you put her on her tummy. Her favorite play toy is Brian or me. She loves to be talked to, and joins right on in the conversation with all her little smiles and coos. Brian can do this one particular laugh that will get her laughing pretty hard. And she is so ticklish. It's almost torture to her. She will squeal and get goose bumps everywhere. She notices Sadie now and watches every move she makes. I just think she is the sweetest thing in the world, but I'm partial:).

Road Trip!!!

First of all, Brian knows how much I love a road trip! He also knows how much I love live music! I have been saying for over a year now that I miss going to concerts like we used to. I just never had the energy for a road trip when I was pregnant. Brian never ceases to surprise me. When he puts his mind to it, he can be quite creative. For Valentines Day, he gave me a bunch of photos tied together with a ribbon. The first one was of the Memphis bridge, the second one the Madison hotel in Memphis. The third was the arch in St. Louis and the last was a picture of Dave Matthews. I really had no idea where he was going with this gift, until I opened up the card and it explained our road trip! In June, we are going up to Memphis to shop and spend the night at the Madison hotel downtown, which is the hotel we got engaged at! We are going out to eat at our favorite restaurant there, Mesquite Chop House. And I am so excited about doing some shopping. I complain all the time about the shopping in Hattiesburg. You can only buy so much from Target and Belk!! Then, the next day we are meeting his sister and her husband to head for St. Louis to see Dave!! I am so excited about this mini little get-a-away, however, I am also very nervous! I have never left Maggie overnight, and this will be for 2 nights. I have 4 months to prepare, and she will be 8 months by then. I know she will do fine! It's me I'm worried about! We are going to have to do a trial run or two before then and let her stay over at YaYa and Pops for practice!

YaYa and Pop came over today to give Maggie her Valentines Day present! A cute little hat for next winter!

Look at all those rolls!!

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Priorities

So I wanted to share with you what we talked about at my last weight watchers meeting. Do me a favor...Get a pen and paper and write down your top 5 priorities in your life in correct order. Or just think about what they are but don't read ahead until you have done so.

Ok...did anyone put themselves? I know I sure didn't. I had Maggie, Brian, God, My Job, and household chores (cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc) written down, but not in that order. In a room full of 30 women, not one of us put ourselves on this list of priorities. Now it is a proven fact that women are more overweight than men, women are more depressed than men, and women are more stressed out than men. This is because on our long list of life's priorities, we consistently put ourself last. If I would have had a sixth spot, it would have been Sadie. Our challenge this week was to find one hour a day to spend doing something you enjoy and having "me" time. Our challenge was to make this "me" time a priority. Now this could be to phone an old friend, to go shopping, to take a nice long bubble bath, work out, etc. You see, ever since I had Maggie I have really struggled to find "me" time. Now I love my Maggie time, don't get me wrong!!! But sometimes women give so much of themselves that they lose who they are and who they want to be. So....I got home and was excited to share this idea with Brian. He immediately said, "who came first on your list, me or maggie?" ha! You can guess the answer to that question. Anyway...we decided for one hour every night , Brian would take Maggie so I could get on the elliptical and then take a nice long shower. Maybe even one long enough to shave my legs! That is how I choose right now to spend my "me" time. Of course, life happens though. He had a meeting after work last night and didn't get home until 9. Then tonight he has tennis practice. So as you can tell, this is definitely a work in progress, but I am really trying hard to add myself to that list of priorities. Now I will never be #1, but I should be in the top 5, right? Before kids and marriage this would have been no problem! Its not selfish. It will actually make you a happier person, which makes you a nicer wife and a better mother. I challenge you all to get some "you" time this week. Its good for your soul!

No More Tears!!!

My birthday weekend came and passed just as quickly as everything else these days. We had a great couple of days celebrating though. Ever since we got married, I have been saying I need to get some onion goggles. I have seen some before but they were like $25 and that is just ridiculous to me, so I've never gotten any. Now I put onions in everything! Even if the recipe doesn't call for onions, I use them. My mom told me to put the onion in the refrigerator before cutting it, but that didn't really work for me either. My eyes are extremely sensitive. So Brian came home from work and told me to open my bday present. Ha! Guess what?? Don't be jealous...You will be crying. I won't.

He tried to act like that was the only thing he got me. He even went in the other room and started watching TV. At first I was a little dissapointed, but then I was like whatever. Guess these are what bdays are like after you have a kid. So I started getting ready for dinner. He was going to take me to Walnut Circle. When he walked in the bedroom and said that Maggie had something for me too!

He bought me some beautiful pearl earrings! Too bad I already had some, but that's ok. Now I get to go pick out something else and I'm excited about that. We enjoyed a great night out while my parents watched Maggie! Then, on Friday night my dad took the whole family out for Hibatchi. They even made me put on this terrible hibatchi hat and everyone sang Happy Birthday. I probably have lice now. Saturday night we made the drive to Laurel to visit with our good friends The Pierces! We enjoyed a yummy steak and hanging out with the boys. Harrison kept coming up to Maggie saying, "Hey Maggie, She soooo cute," in a high pitch voice. It was adorable.

Maggie Moo Moo holding her head up so good now

This puppy is a gift from God! He goes everywhere with us. Anytime she is fussy or crying, we bring him out. She loves him for some reason!

School is going much better this week. The last 2 days she has been in a great mood when we pick her up. Her teachers say she has a boyfriend in the class. They make goo goo eyes at each other all day. His name is Hayes...that's all we know. We might need to do a background check on this guy. When I walked in the other day, they were laying on the mat besides each other gooing and gaaing. I think she is finally getting adjusted to it, which makes me feel 1000 times better.

3. I joined weight watchers today and went to my first meeting. I think I was the only person under 60 in there.
4. I love Maggie so much it hurts. I had no idea something so tiny could take over my heart like she does.
5. I would love to own my own business one day. I have a good business mind. Too bad the economy is perfect for that right now. NOT

9. I already have baby fever again. I want them close together, but not this close! It will be awhile.
